Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 6, 2026

FlashKeepers is a flashcard app you can use with no account. Studying happens on your device. We built it to collect as little as possible. This page explains exactly what that means.

The short version

What stays on your device

Your decks, cards, review history, and scheduling data (FSRS-6 state) live in local storage on your device. This never leaves your device, and clearing your app data or browser storage removes it, along with any decks or progress that weren't shared or backed up elsewhere.

Cloud sync (Pro, optional)

If you turn on sync, you sign in with Apple or Google and your decks (cards and review scheduling), settings, and review log are stored in our hosting provider's database (Google Firebase / Cloud Firestore), keyed to your account and readable only by you. Nothing syncs while you are signed out, and Setup's "Delete cloud copy" removes every synced record and signs you out. Your Apple or Google sign-in gives us a user id and, depending on the provider and your choices, an email address; we use them only to key your data.

Teach-back (spoken answers)

If you use teach-back, your spoken answer is transcribed on your device by the system speech recognizer. Only the resulting text, together with the card's front, back, and hint, is sent to our grading function and, from there, to our model provider, to produce the verdict and suggested rating. The audio never leaves your device through us, and neither the transcript nor the grade is stored anywhere.

Sharing a deck by code

If you tap Share on a deck, we publish a read-only snapshot (deck name, description, and up to 500 cards) keyed to a random code, to our hosting provider's database (Google Firebase / Cloud Firestore). Anyone with the code can view and copy it. Please don't put anything private or personal into a card, deck name, or description you plan to share.

Table mode (broadcast)

When you start Table mode, the current card, the room's join code, and, in Buzzer mode, the nicknames and scores of anyone who joins are stored on our hosting provider's database for as long as the room is live, so every screen showing the code sees the same card. Anyone with the code can view the room, and, in Buzzer mode, join it with a nickname. Please use first names or nicknames only.

AI cards

When you generate cards from pasted text, a PDF, or a photo, only the text or image you provide is sent to our AI function and, from there, to our model provider, to produce draft cards. Nothing you send for generation is stored on our servers; the drafts are returned to your device, and nothing is saved until you accept a card into your deck.

Logo upload (FlashKeepers Pro)

If you add a brand line to a Pro Table mode room, it's stored alongside that room's data, keyed to the same random code, so every screen showing your room can display it. It is not linked to your identity, just to the code.

Optional anonymous analytics

FlashKeepers may use Firebase Analytics to understand which features are used, for example, that a review session started or a deck was generated with AI. These events are anonymous and identify only the event name, never a card, deck content, or anything you typed. This can be used to improve the app; it is never sold.

In-App Purchase

FlashKeepers Pro is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple. We never see or store your payment information. Apple's own privacy policy covers that transaction.

What we don't do

Data retention

Table mode rooms are meant to be temporary. We may periodically clean up old, inactive rooms. Shared deck snapshots persist until you or we remove them. Because rooms and shared decks hold no personal information beyond the names people choose to enter and are keyed only by a random code, there's nothing tied to your identity to remove.

Children

FlashKeepers is a general-audience study tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you use Table mode in a classroom, please use first names or nicknames only.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
