Privacy Policy

ScoreKeepers is a shared scoreboard you can use with no account. We built it to collect as little as possible, this page explains exactly what that means.
The short version
- No accounts. There's no sign-up, login, email, or profile.
- No personal data. We don't ask for your name or contact details, and we don't track you across the web.
- No ads, no selling data, no cross-app tracking. Ever. We use minimal, anonymous usage analytics (see below).
What a “board” stores
When you start or join a shared board, the only thing saved is the board's live state: the two team names you type, the two scores, the chosen sport, and a random short code that identifies the board. This is stored on our hosting provider's database (Google Firebase / Cloud Firestore) so that everyone who opens the same link sees the same live score.
A board is identified only by its random share code. Anyone with the link can view and update that board, that's the feature, so please don't put anything private or personal into a team name.
On your device
ScoreKeepers keeps your current board and your light/dark preference in your browser's local storage so the app picks up where you left off. This never leaves your device, and clearing your browser data removes it.
Anonymous usage analytics
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how ScoreKeepers is used in aggregate, for example how many boards are started or joined, which share option a link came from (a link, QR code, poster, result card or overlay), roughly how many people watched a match (in coarse ranges like “2-4”), or how often people view or complete a Pro purchase. On the web and in the Android app this runs through Google's analytics library; in the iPhone and iPad app the same kinds of events are sent directly to Google Analytics. Each event carries its name, a few fixed values (such as the sport or the screen it came from), your app language, and a random identifier generated on your device. It is not linked to a name, email, or account, and as with any internet request Google's servers receive your IP address, which Google Analytics uses to estimate general location. We never send a board's code, team names, or score as part of an analytics event. If a Pro purchase does not complete, the event records a short reason (such as canceled, pending approval, or error) and, for App Store errors, a short error code, so we can fix purchase problems. We use this only to improve the app, never for ads or cross-app tracking.
Pro purchases
In the iPhone and iPad app, ScoreKeepers Pro is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple. On the web, Pro is a one-time purchase processed by our payment provider Polar (polar.sh). Polar handles checkout and issues your license key; we never see or store your card details. When you enter the key in the app, your browser sends it to Polar, along with a random label for that browser, to activate it and to re-check it later. The key is kept in your browser's local storage on that device.
Update check
In the iPhone and iPad app, ScoreKeepers asks Apple's public App Store lookup service about once a day whether a newer version is available, so it can offer an update. The request names the app and your device's country or region; it carries no account, board, or personal information. As with any internet request, Apple's servers receive your IP address.
What we don't do
- We don't use advertising, ad-tracking identifiers, or cross-app/cross-site tracking.
- We don't create user profiles or fingerprint your device.
- We don't sell, rent, or share data with advertisers.
Data retention
Boards are meant to be temporary. We may periodically clean up old, inactive boards. Because boards hold no personal information and are keyed only by a random code, there's nothing tied to your identity to remove.
Children
ScoreKeepers is a general-audience scoring tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
