How to plan the dishes
Most hosts cook the turkey and ask everyone else for the rest. Plan roughly a pound of bone-in turkey per guest, then count on about one side dish for every two or three people. For 16 guests that is six or seven sides, two vegetables or salads, three desserts, rolls and drinks.
Ask early. Send the link about two weeks ahead so people can plan around travel, and close sign-ups two or three days before so you know what the table looks like. Add a question that asks whether the dish needs the oven or an outlet, because oven space is what runs out first on the day. Turn on reminders so each person gets a nudge before the holiday, and leave a few open lines marked "anything you love" so relatives who are sure to bring a family recipe have somewhere to put it.

How many dishes should each guest bring?
One dish per person or couple is plenty. Count one side for every two or three guests and check the balance meter so you are not left with six desserts and no vegetables.
