Accessibility, for every student.
Trident Calculator. Last updated October 2026.
We want every student to be able to use Trident, including students who use screen readers, keyboards, switch control, zoom or high-contrast settings.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA in the web app and the iPhone and iPad apps.
What works today
- Every calculator key and control has a spoken name. Results are read aloud by screen readers (VoiceOver, TalkBack, ChromeVox, NVDA, JAWS).
- You can use the whole calculator from a physical keyboard. Focus is always visible.
- There is a high-contrast skin, plus light, dark and system appearance.
- Text and controls scale with browser zoom and system text size.
- The app is in 15 languages, with a right-to-left layout for Arabic.
- No time limits, except an optional timer that you start yourself in exam practice.
Known gaps
- Calculator screens are drawn as images. Screen readers hear the current result, but not the full two-dimensional layout of a graph or matrix.
- Graphs have no text or audio description yet. The Table view lists the values meanwhile.
- Some decorative skins have low-contrast screen text. The high-contrast skin avoids this.
- The 3D shape viewer needs touch or a mouse to rotate.
- We have not had an independent audit yet.
