A notebook is like a worksheet that can calculate. You write notes in text cells, do algebra in math cells, draw graphs in plot cells and keep tables in data cells. When you change something and run it again, everything below updates.

  1. Tap the Notebook button in the top bar. The notebook opens in the same window, and the arrow at the top left takes you back to the calculator.
  2. You start in an example notebook. Use the Examples button in the notebook's top bar to open another example, or open the notebook menu and choose New notebook for a blank page. Type a name in the title box at the top.
  3. To add a cell, use the row of buttons at the bottom: Text, Math, Plot or Data. While a cell is selected, the same buttons appear right under it to insert a cell there.
  4. Type in a math cell, for example a:=5 or Define f(x)=x^2 or solve(f(x)=9,x), then press Shift+Enter, or tap the play button on the cell, to run it. "Run all" in the top bar runs the whole notebook (Ctrl or ⌘ + Enter).
  5. Text cells take simple formatting: # for a heading, **bold**, *italic*, - for a list, and `x^2` for math.
  6. Each cell has buttons to run, move up, move down and delete. If you delete a cell by mistake, tap Undo in the message that appears.
  7. The notebook menu button (at the top right) opens a menu that holds File actions, Run all, Clear outputs and settings for the angle unit (RAD or DEG) and how results are shown (Auto, Exact or Decimal). Your notebook is kept on your device automatically as you work.
