RoadPlay requests one permission: Local Network access. This lets the app discover other nearby phones running RoadPlay directly over Wi-Fi, so the two (or more) of you can play together — the same technology behind AirDrop. Playing with nearby phones never uses the internet, and no game needs a connection. The requests RoadPlay does make are described under Update check and Anonymous usage totals below.
About once a day, when the phone is online, RoadPlay asks Apple's public App Store lookup service whether a newer version is available, so it can offer you an update. The request names the app and your device's country or region. It carries no account, name, or game information, and it goes straight to Apple: we receive nothing. As with any internet request, Apple's servers receive your IP address. With no connection the app simply skips the check.
Play Far Away (optional) uses Apple's SharePlay during a FaceTime call, so moves travel between the people on that call through Apple's service. We don't receive them.
RoadPlay counts which games are played, for how long (in broad ranges), whether the Road Pass screen was shown, dismissed or purchased, and how far new players get through the intro. These are added into daily totals on our server. We do not store your name, an account, a device or advertising ID, your IP address or any individual's activity, and we do not share the totals with anyone. You can turn this off at any time in your profile. Games played nearby never use the internet.
Anything RoadPlay keeps — your chosen display name, which games you've recently played, and whether you've already seen a given game's rules card — is stored locally on your device only. None of it is uploaded, synced to a server, or shared with us or anyone else. The only server we run receives the anonymous totals described above, so we have no copy of this information and no way to see it.
If you delete RoadPlay from your device, this data is deleted with it.
If you reach out through the form on our Support page, that message (and the email address you provide, if you provide one) is collected by Netlify Forms and sent to us for the sole purpose of replying to your request. It isn't used for anything else.
RoadPlay doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children, so there's nothing to disclose or protect beyond what's already described above.
If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above and post the new version at the same location. Given how little the app does with data, we don't expect this to change often.
