Graph equations by typing them (graph canvas)
Open the graph canvas, type equations the way they are written in your textbook, and watch them drawn as you type.
The graph canvas is a free graphing page: an expression list on one side and the graph on the other. You type math, and it is drawn straight away. No account is needed and it works offline.
On phones the graph sits above the list; drag the small bar between them to give either part more room. On tablets and computers they sit side by side.
- Open it with the Graph canvas button in the top bar of the calculator, or from the Graph canvas card in the Library.
- Tap the first line and type an equation, for example y = 2x + 1. Press Enter (or the ↵ key on the math keypad) to start a new line.
- Type math the way it is written: 2x, x^2, sin x, sqrt(x), |x - 2|, pi, theta. A letter on its own is a variable, so ab means a times b.
- Lines can be equations in x and y (x^2 + y^2 = 25), inequalities that shade a region (y < sin x), polar curves (r = 1 + cos θ), parametric points (cos t, sin t), plain points (2, 3) and lists ([1, 2, 3]).
- Restrict a curve with braces at the end: y = x^2 {x > 0}. Write piecewise functions as {x < 0: -x, x}.
- A line that is just a calculation, such as 2 + 3·4, shows its answer underneath.
- Tap the colored circle next to a line to hide or show it. The wrench button changes its color, line style and width; the × button deletes it.
- Use the + Add button for a new expression, a table, a note or a folder.
- On a touch screen, the math keypad appears while you type. Tap ABC to switch to the normal keyboard, and the keypad button in the top bar to turn the math keypad off or on.
Tips
- Undo and redo are in the top bar (Ctrl/⌘+Z on a keyboard).
- The light bulb button opens example graphs and challenges you can start from.
- The open graph is saved on your device automatically. Use Menu › Save to My graphs to keep named copies.
- If a line has a problem, a short message under it explains what to fix.
