Explore 3D graphing and the other Pro labs

Labs are deeper visual tools: 3D graphing, calculus visuals, solids of revolution, physics units and vectors. 3D shapes can be viewed in AR on supported devices.

Open in Trident

The labs sit in the reference library. Without Pro you can open each lab and play with its first example in preview. Controls ask you to unlock Pro. With Pro you can change everything and try your own functions.

  1. Open the reference library and choose the Labs chip. Labs marked PRO need Pro for full use.
  2. 3D graphing: choose what to graph (z = f(x, y), a parametric surface or a space curve). Type a surface using X and Y, such as X^2−Y^2. Drag to orbit, pinch or scroll to zoom, and tap the surface to trace a point. You can colour by height, show a wireframe, add contour lines, and add more surfaces.
  3. Calculus visuals: secant and tangent lines (with an animation as h shrinks), Riemann sums, area between curves, and Taylor polynomials.
  4. Solids of revolution: spin a region about an axis and see the disk or washer slices and the volume.
  5. Physics units & constants: type quantities with units and convert, with a list of constants you can insert.
  6. Vectors: enter two vectors and see the sum, dot product, cross product, angle and projection drawn as arrows.
  7. To view a 3D result in AR, scroll to the AR and 3D model section in 3D graphing or Solids of revolution. On supported iPhones and iPads, tap View in AR to place it on your desk. Otherwise download the model as .usdz or .glb for a 3D viewer.
