How to Do Karaoke on Your TV With Your Phone

You do not need a karaoke machine. If you have a TV and an iPhone or iPad, you can run a full karaoke night: songs play on the big screen, your phone is the remote, and friends add songs from their own phones.

Mic Night is a free app with no account and no ads. It comes with a free book of 1,300+ songs, with 10,000+ more available in one-time packs. This guide walks through the setup and a few habits that keep a night moving.

1. Get the video onto the TV

Songs are YouTube karaoke videos, played in the official YouTube player. Put the video on your TV over AirPlay or an HDMI cable, and your phone stays the remote for browsing, queueing and skipping.

Running Mic Night on a computer instead? Open the web app at micnight.sviewstudios.com in a browser and drag the player onto your TV.

2. Start hosting and let guests scan in

Tap Start Hosting and a QR code appears. Friends on your Wi-Fi scan it and get the whole songbook in their phone's browser, with no install and no account. They send songs straight to your queue.

Between songs, the TV shows who is up next and a big QR code, so late arrivals can join without asking you.

3. Build the queue with a mix

Open with easy, familiar choices such as Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond or Dancing Queen by ABBA, songs the room can carry. Filter the book by difficulty and vocal range so nervous singers land on something comfortable.

Save the biggest songs for later in the night. Don't Stop Believin' by Journey and Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen make strong closers.

4. Keep everyone involved

Guests can tap reactions while someone sings and the emoji float up on the TV. Queue a duet, such as Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, and every phone gets a Who's In prompt.

Before each song the TV announces who is taking the stage, which gives every singer a small moment.

5. Finish with awards

At the end of the night, show the awards on the TV. Winners get a notice on their phones, and you can share the list to the group chat in one tap.
