The Karaoke Party App for Hosting a Great Night

A good karaoke party is more than a playlist. It is a queue that stays fair, a room that stays involved, and an ending people talk about the next day. Mic Night is a free iPhone and iPad app built around that.

You pick songs on your phone and they play on the TV. Guests join from their own phones with a QR code, with no install and no account, then send songs, cheer, dare and duet. Here is how to run it.

Start the party and share the QR code

Tap Start Hosting, and friends on your Wi-Fi scan the QR code to open the full songbook in their phone's browser. Between songs the TV shows who is up next and a big QR code, so people can join at any point.

Guests see the live queue with roughly how long until their turn, and their phone buzzes when they are next.

Shape the order of the night

Open with easy songs, like Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond or Dancing Queen by ABBA. Everyone knows the chorus, which settles nervous singers. Let the middle fill with requests, and plan a big closer such as Don't Stop Believin' by Journey.

Songs are tagged with genre, decade, difficulty and vocal range, which helps a first-timer find something that fits. With Mic Night Pro, fair rotation means everyone sings once before anyone sings twice.

Games that keep the room in the show

While someone sings, guests tap fire, applause, laughs and hearts, and the reactions float up on the TV. Spin & Dare picks a song that fits your voice or lets the room vote on what you sing next.

For duets, queue one and every phone gets a Who's In prompt. The first tap wins the second mic. Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper is an easy one to start with.

Hand out the awards

At the end of the night, Mic Night builds awards from what happened: Most Hyped, Comedy Gold, Duet MVP and Daredevil. Show them on the TV as a slideshow, and each winner's phone lights up with You won.

One tap shares the list to your group chat, and the Recap keeps the night's songs and singers.
