Change the calculator layout
Switch between the Device keypad and the Spread layout for big screens, and move or resize the display and key groups with Arrange.
There are two layouts. Device draws the keypad like the real calculator. Spread splits the keys into groups (function keys, control keys, arrow keys, math keys and the number pad) so they fill a big screen, with a large display.
Automatic uses Spread on landscape screens at least 1024 pixels wide, such as a laptop, a Chromebook or an iPad turned sideways, and Device on phones and on tablets held upright.
- To switch, tap the Spread button on the top edge of the calculator screen (three small blocks), or open Settings and choose Automatic, Device or Spread under Layout. The choice is saved for that calculator family on this kind of screen.
- To move things around, tap the Arrange button on the top edge of the calculator screen (four arrows), or open Settings and tap Arrange under Layout. The display and every key group turn into tiles on a grid.
- Drag a tile to move it. Drag the corner handle to resize it. Tiles snap to the grid and never overlap: a tile you drop on another pushes it aside or swaps places with it. Key groups cannot get so small that the keys are hard to press.
- With a keyboard, press Tab to reach a tile. The arrow keys move it one step, and Shift with the arrow keys resizes it.
- Try a preset in the bar at the bottom: Display on top, Display left, Big display (presenting) or Compact keypad. Reset to default brings back the automatic layout.
- Tap Done (or press Enter or Escape) to finish. Your arrangement is saved for that calculator on this kind of screen.
- On the Classic CAS calculator in Spread, the letter keys are hidden to save room. Tap the Letter keys button on the top edge of the screen to show them. Your computer keyboard types letters too.
Tips
- Phones keep the Device layout unless you choose Spread in Settings. Arrange works there too.
- Arranging is turned off during exam practice, so the calculator stays the same for the whole session.
- The presenter window and TV view are not affected by your layout.
