Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 8, 2026
Storymoji ("we", "our", "the app") is a daily emoji story game. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it's handled.
What we collect
- Stories you submit. When you write and publish a story, the text you entered is stored in our database so other players can read it. Stories are associated with a randomly generated anonymous ID, not your name or email.
- Game Night room activity. When you host or join a Game Night room, your chosen display name and score are stored temporarily in our database. This data is deleted when the room closes.
- Local preferences. Progress, your daily "done" status, and display name are stored on your device only (localStorage / NSUserDefaults). We do not transmit these to our servers.
What we do NOT collect
- No account registration: no email, phone number, or password is required.
- No advertising identifiers (IDFA or similar).
- No precise location.
- No contacts, photos, or microphone access.
Third-party services
Storymoji uses Firebase Realtime Database (Google) to sync Game Night gameplay and store published stories. Firebase may collect device identifiers and IP addresses as part of normal network operation. See Google's Firebase Privacy Policy for details.
AI judging (Game Night)
Game Night lets the host choose an AI Judge instead of a person. This is optional and applies only to rooms where the host turns it on. When it is on, at the end of each writing round the app sends that round's entries to our server, which passes them to Claude, an AI model from Anthropic, to pick the winner and write a one or two sentence comment.
- What is sent. The round's emoji prompt, the story text each player wrote (up to 400 characters each), the judging style the host picked (for example "Funniest"), and the language for the reply.
- What is not sent. Player names, avatars, scores, and account or device identifiers. Entries are labeled with temporary numbers for that round only.
- Who processes it. Anthropic processes the entries under its commercial API terms, which do not use them to train its models. We do not use them to train anything either. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- What we keep. We do not store a separate copy of the entries for AI judging, and our server logs record only technical details such as the number of entries and the response time, not story text. To prevent abuse, the server counts requests per anonymous sign-in and per network address (kept only as a one-way hash), and these counters reset hourly or daily.
Because players type free text, please do not put personal information in stories. If AI judging is unavailable, the app picks a winner at random instead.
Data retention
Published stories remain in our database indefinitely unless you ask us to remove them. Game Night room data (roster, in-progress state) is deleted automatically when a room closes or within 24 hours of inactivity.
Children
Storymoji is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Stories are anonymous. If you believe a child has submitted identifying information, contact us using the form below.
