Graph a sine wave

Plot y = sin(x) in a trig-friendly window and find its peak at x = π ÷ 2.

A sine wave repeats every 2π radians and swings between -1 and 1. Graph it in radian mode with a window made for trig, so the wave fills the screen nicely.

The peak (maximum) of y = sin(x) is at x = π ÷ 2 = 1.570796327, where y = 1.

Start on the main screen: Press 2nd then mode (QUIT) to get back to the home screen. Pressing clear on a menu also backs out of it.

  1. The calculator starts in radians. Open the function list and type Y1 = sin(X). The X key is the X,T,θ,n key.

  2. Open the zoom menu and pick 7, ZTrig. It draws the graph in a window sized for trig.

  3. Press trace, type π ÷ 2 and press enter to jump to the peak. (π is 2nd then the ^ key.)

Natural Color Graphing

Start on the main screen: Press MENU then 1 to open Run-Matrix, the main calculation screen. Press EXIT to back out of a bar or screen, and SHIFT then EXIT (QUIT) to return to the app start.

  1. This model starts in radians. Open the Graph app from the main menu (MENU, then 3) and type sin(X) as Y1.

  2. Open the view window (SHIFT then F3) and press F2 for TRIG. Press EXIT, then F6 to draw.

  3. Open G-SOLV (F5) and press F2 for MAX to find a peak.

Classic CAS

Start on the main screen: Press home to open the Home menu (Calculator, Graphs, Settings, and more). Choose Calculator, or press esc to go back to the calculation page.

  1. The doc key opens the graphs page. Type sin(x) and press enter. The graph is drawn.

  2. Open the menu, choose 2 (Window / Zoom) and then 2 for the trig window.

  3. Open the menu, choose 4 (Analyze Graph) and then 3 for Maximum.
