Profit margin and markup
Find margin as a share of the selling price, from cost and price.
Margin compares profit with the selling price. Markup compares profit with the cost. An item that costs 100 and sells for 125 has a profit of 25. That is a 20% margin (25 ÷ 125) and a 25% markup (25 ÷ 100).
