Anneal vs Strong

Strong records your sets. Anneal decides the next ones.

Strong is a clean, inexpensive logger. Anneal adds an engine that raises your weights by published rules and tells you why. Here is how they compare, price included.

Who each app suits

Strong

Strong is a clean, quick logger that many lifters have used for years. If you know your program and want to record it with the least friction, Strong is hard to beat, and it costs less than Anneal Pro.

Anneal

Anneal is for lifters who want the next weight chosen by published rules, with the reason shown. Your Strong history imports in one step, so the engine starts with real data. The free tier is a full logger too.

Strong details are from its App Store listing and third-party pricing guides, read October 2026. Strong lists older price tiers alongside current ones, so figures are approximate; check the current price in the App Store. Free-tier limits are as reported by those guides and can change. Strong's website (strong.app) lists a warm-up calculator and RPE, and does not list set types or weekly sets per muscle; features not listed there may still exist in the app. Anneal details are from our own listing.

The honest price picture

Anneal Pro is about twice Strong's annual price ($59.99 against about $29.99). Pro pays for the engine, readiness reshaping and the forecast, not for logging. If logging is all you need, Strong's price is hard to argue with. If you have been picking weights by feel or by spreadsheet, try Anneal free for 14 days and see if the explained progression is worth it.

Strong CSV in, program out

  1. In Strong, export your workout data as a CSV (look under Settings for Export Strong Data).
  2. In Anneal, open Settings, then Data, then Import CSV, and pick the file.
  3. Review the preview and tap Import. Then follow a bundled template or build your own: the engine takes it from your imported numbers.

Re-importing the same file is safe. See how Anneal decides each weight for what happens next.
