16.2Number range and precision#

  • Whole numbers and fractions are exact and can have thousands of digits (for example 100!100! is shown in full).
  • Decimal answers use ordinary double precision (about 15 digits). The display shows up to 12 significant digits.
  • Results beyond about 1.8×103081.8\times 10^{308} show as ∞. An exact power with more than 4000 digits is turned into a decimal or ∞.
  • The history keeps 60 entries.
  • Large and small decimals are shown in 1.E20 style.

16.3What is not included#

  • Step-by-step solutions: answers are shown without the working.
  • Programs and scripts: you can define functions with Define, but there are no multi-line programs or editors.
  • Spreadsheet, data tables, regression and statistics plots, and a table of function values.
  • Differential equation solving, trig expansion such as expanding sin(2x), and sorting lists.
  • Inequality, implicit, 3D and slope-field graphs, and shading under curves.
  • Unit conversions and physical constants.
  • Indexing into a list or matrix with square brackets, and a variable list with types.
  • Separate documents with several pages: there is one calculator page and one graphs page.
