Use the law of cosines
Find the third side of a triangle when you know two sides and the angle between them.
The law of cosines says c² = a² + b² − 2ab cos C, where C is the angle between sides a and b.
Example: a = 7, b = 9 and C = 60 degrees. Then c = √(49 + 81 − 63) = √67 = 8.185352772.

Tips
- If the angle is not between the two known sides, use the law of sines instead.
- With all three sides known, rearrange to find an angle: cos C = (a² + b² − c²) ÷ (2ab), then use cos⁻¹.
