Messages and errors

Every message the calculator can show, what it means and how to fix it.

18.1Error messages#

An error shows the command name followed by Error:, and the message below. The stack is put back as it was before the command, with the arguments restored. The message goes away when you press the next key.

MessageWhat it meansHow to fix it
Too Few ArgumentsThe command needs more objects than the stack holds.Push the missing objects first.
Bad Argument TypeAn object is of the wrong kind for the command (for example a string where a number is needed).Check with TYPE and convert.
Bad Argument ValueThe value is not allowed (for example a negative count).Use a valid value.
Undefined NameA name was recalled that holds no value.Store a value first.
Infinite ResultDivision by zero, or a singular matrix.Check the divisor or the matrix.
Undefined ResultThe result has no meaning, such as 0 divided by 0.Change the inputs.
Invalid DimensionArray sizes do not fit the operation.Check rows and columns.
Invalid SyntaxThe command line is not a valid object or program.Fix the line and press ENTER again.
No ArgumentLASTARG has no saved arguments yet.Run a command first.
OverflowThe result is too large.Use smaller numbers.
Insufficient MemoryPrograms are nested too deeply.Simplify the recursion.
InterruptedA program ran for too long and was stopped.Look for a loop that never ends.
Unable to IsolateISOL could not solve for the variable.Use SOLVE or rearrange.
